Maggie Carroll is the illustrator behind Baseball for Breakfast, a new picture book by Judy Campbell-Smith published by Charlesbridge in February 2026. Aimed at children aged five to eight, the book is rooted in a real piece of wartime American history: the Milwaukee Brewers' decision to schedule morning games so that night-shift factory workers could attend.

Carroll works with digitally rendered permanent marker outlines and a warm vintage colour palette, giving the book a period authenticity that feels deliberate rather than decorative.
